i practice nondual animism (heavily influenced by daoism & dzogchen) and i agree that improvisation, play and collaborative storytelling/performance arts is key in creating a baseline for experiencing nondual states and navigating the dreamlike nature of reality.

Oh wow! Thank you for sharing! Do you have a recommended starting place for folks? I’m so intrigued by that description, but that combo of words haven’t been common in my reading.

specifically, I'm curious about nondual animism as influenced by daoism and dzogchen and how it might relate to play. I see your Substack (excited to follow!) and sense you might have some really cool recommendations.

is this like David Abram's work? I have Becoming Animal on my reading list....

No, i dont think its like abrams work. In all my studies and practices i find that the discourses around both nonduality and animism are largely co-opted by boring people, especially boring white people.

My work, which ive been writing about for 5 years, practicing for more, interweaves a lot of sources — play, primatology, deep anthropology (radical anthropology group), ritual, theater, storytelling and jazz/blues improvisation to name but a few. (Plus the aforementioned daoism and dzogchen)

The list is long but not many people are saying what im saying, which makes it unbelievably difficult to communicate as so many of these fields are siloed off.

"not many people are saying what im saying" I have felt this for years. I think it has to do with getting a PhD in a discipline other people don't think is real or think is something else. lol

Your work sounds really interesting to me and totally up my alley. I have enjoyed what I read so far and it's always nice to find overlap with cool non-linear/web-thinkers :)

Really interesting article! Yes, I’ve been redirected often in my life. That’s one way to look at it. And I love 1000 Year Old Vampire! I swear I have the beginnings of a good book with all of my journaling. Did you know the author/designer is coming out with Vol. 2?
